Komaza is a small African American owned business. We chose the
Swahili word, Komaza, as our name because it defines what our products
are designed to do and that is to encourage growth of beautiful healthy
hair. Our mission is to encourage healthy habits within our
culture and community as well, so we hope our website will provide you
with excellent information to help you on your way to a more energetic
and healthy way of living.
We understand and are focused on ethnic hair needs. Many products are marketed for all hair types, however, we are aware that African American hair needs special care. We have studied our hair, thoroughly, from what our hair is made of to the common scalp afflictions and have designed high quality natural products to suit and aide our hair in growth and strengthening.
Komaza was initially born out of frustration of a lack of natural high quality products for ethnic hair. We realized that the products we were using caused slow growing hair because of the large amounts of mineral oil and petroleum the available products contained. The mineral oil and petroleum would clog the hair follicle and was not easy to wash out. We were also facing health issues that caused our hair to fall out. My mother, a diabetic and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. The products we were using was not at all helpful with fighting the side effects of our conditions. We also researched and found that many shampoos have harsh chemicals that could strip our hair and scalp. Leaving an itchy dry scalp and brittle hair which would later cause split ends. So we designed a product that would moisturize the scalp, nourish and strengthen hair with essential proteins such as keratin and soy to give real results of healthy, strong, fast growing hair especially for those battling healthy issues.
