Hair Loss

There are many reasons why your hair may be thinning. Hormonal imbalances, gastrointestinal tract problems, poor diet, or medications are the most common reasons. It is always best to identify your symptoms, know and understand all the possible side affects of the medications you are taking and talk to you physician for the proper care of your condition.

Hormonal Imbalances

Hormones have a profound effect on your everyday health and well-being. Although present in only tiny amounts, hormones act on every cell of your body. Hormones have individual affects, but also interact with each other to produce dramatic effects in the body. Because of these interactions, they are able to trigger multiple body systems. When hormones are out of balance, these imbalanced interactions may provoke a wide range of symptoms.

Your body produces different hormones from reproductive hormones such as Progesterone, Estrogen and Testosterone, to the Adrenal Hormones of Cortisol and Adrenaline, and even the hormone Cholesterol, your endocrine system can tell more about your health than you might ever suspect. You can make changes in order to significantly reduce hormonal imbalances, the effects and to regrow your hair. See Nutrition & Vitamins that maximize hair growth  or Herbal remedies for hair loss.

Gastrointestinal Tract & Dietary Problems

For women, thinning hair or hair loss can be a sign of a problem in the gastrointestinal tract such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), Diverticulitis. These type of gastrointestinal problems can cause mal-absorption (poor absorption) of proteins and other nutrients which causes brittle hair and nails, hair loss, and skin problems. Thinning hair could also be a sign of insufficient stomach acids or it could also mean a deficiency of protein, zinc and other nutrients. Taking two acidophilus and multi enzyme tablets (take multi enzymes 30 minutes or more before or after vitamin supplements) after or between meals (four to six tablets per day) for two months will help.

For men, balding process can be slowed down by taking a low-fat diet. Some scientists say that the male pattern baldness is tied to increased testosterone levels during puberty. A high-fat, meat-based diet raises testosterone levels, and that may adversely affect hair follicles. Eating low-fat foods may not stop hair loss but it will slow down the process.

Anemia is one of the most frequent causes of hair loss. Eat plenty of iron-rich foods, like liver (Avoid if you are pregnant) and other organ meat, whole grain cereals, dark green leafy vegetables, eggs, dates, and raisins.
